Why run your own node
A full node keeps its own copy of the Bitcoin blockchain and checks every transaction against the rules itself. Your wallet then asks your node instead of somebody else's server, and nobody else learns which addresses are yours. Our article Why You Should Run Your Own Bitcoin Node goes into the details.
What to look for
- Storage: the blockchain grows with every block. A 2 TB NVMe SSD holds it with room for apps next to it.
- Power: a node runs day and night. The LiquidBox V5 needs about 10 W, around 7 kWh a month.
- Software: umbrelOS installs Bitcoin Core and apps such as Public Pool or BTCPay Server with one click, without a terminal.
- Connection: a network cable to your router keeps the node in sync without dropouts.
A node for your miners
With the Public Pool app your node becomes your own solo pool. Point your Bitaxe or NerdAxe at it instead of a public pool, and a block reward goes to your address without a middleman. The LiquidBox Setup Guide takes you from the box to a running node in five steps; the initial sync then runs on its own.
