Not open source. Not a kit. Just a box that mines.
Why we sell a closed device
Everything else here is open hardware running AxeOS, and we think that is the better way to learn how mining works. But not everyone wants to learn. Some people want a machine that arrives sealed, starts on the first try and never asks a question. Canaan have been building ASIC miners since 2013, and the Nano 3s is what that experience looks like in a domestic housing.
What you give up
- No open firmware. You cannot read or change the code, and you configure it through the manufacturer app.
- No tuning. Frequency and voltage are not yours to set.
- Lower efficiency: about 23.3 J/TH against roughly 15 for a current BM1370 board.
What you get
Six terahash from a device the size of a shoebox, at 33 dB in quiet mode. No stand to fit, no heatsink to mount, no Wi-Fi access point to find. It runs from a single USB-C power supply, which means one cable to the wall.
Heat as a feature
At 140 W the Nano 3s produces roughly the warmth of a large laptop working hard. Canaan lean into that: in winter the machine is doing two jobs, and the electricity you pay for is not entirely gone.
