The Avalon Nano 3s is the one miner in our range that is not open hardware. Canaan, who have built ASIC miners since 2013, make it as a closed appliance: twelve 4 nm chips deliver 6 TH/s at about 140 W inside a housing with nothing to assemble. You set it up with the manufacturer app on your phone instead of a dashboard in the browser.
Quiet mode and normal mode
The Nano 3s has two operating modes: 33 dB in quiet mode and 38 dB in normal mode. It joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi through the Wi-Fi module that comes in the box, and it takes its power from a single USB-C power supply with 28 V / 5 A (USB-C PD 3.1), also included. One cable to the wall, no stand to fit, no heatsink to mount.
Power, cost and heat
At about 140 W the Nano 3s uses around 101 kWh a month (140 W × 720 hours), roughly 30 EUR at 0.30 EUR per kWh. The power it draws ends up as warmth, so in the cold months it heats the room it stands in; how that compares with a heater and where to place it is on our Bitcoin heater page. Per terahash it needs more electricity than the open-source boards: about 23.3 J/TH, against roughly 15 for a current BM1370 board.

Same hashrate as the NerdQAxe++ Hydro, but more power; same power as the NerdQX, but less hashrate. What the Avalon offers instead is the closed housing and the app: nothing to assemble and no settings to look after. If you want to read the code, change frequency and voltage or learn how mining works, an open-source miner from the NerdAxe or Bitaxe range fits better.
Solo pool or your own node
The pool address goes into the app, so the Nano 3s can mine to a solo pool or to a pool on your own node like any other miner we sell; only the firmware itself is closed. 6 Aug 2026La configurazione è stata veloce. In Avalon Nano 3s apprezzo soprattutto quanto poco spazio occupa; anche il formato adatto alla casa è stato un motivo per sceglierlo. Dopo un riavvio del router si riconnette bene. Rimarrà nel setup.
18 May 2026Il miner è nel locale tecnico. Apprezzo poter utilizzare il calore invece di sprecarlo e l'hashrate di circa 6 TH/s; finora ha funzionato in modo affidabile. Da me funziona di giorno e spesso anche di notte.

3 May 2026Ich bin von einem kleineren Miner umgestiegen. Bei Avalon Nano 3s schätze ich vor allem die einfache Avalon Bedienung, aber auch das wohnungstaugliche Format. Ich nehme lieber eine stabile Lüfterkurve als maximalen Takt.
3 May 2026Deux points comptaient surtout pour moi avec Avalon Nano 3s: l'interface simple d'Avalon et le format adapté à la maison. Après six mois, ce choix me convient toujours. Je n'ouvre le tableau de bord que lorsque je veux modifier quelque chose. Le passage du câble pourrait être un peu plus propre.
Frequently asked questions
Can I point it at my own solo pool?
Yes. You enter the pool address in the app, so a solo pool or your own node works the same as any other pool. What you cannot do is change the firmware itself.
Is it really quieter than an open board?
Than some. In quiet mode it runs at 33 dB, the air-cooled NerdQX at about 38 dB. A Bitaxe Gamma with the Noctua fan stays below 12 dB, but at 1.3 TH/s instead of 6 TH/s.
Why is the efficiency worse than a Bitaxe?
Different silicon and a different design goal. At about 23.3 J/TH the Nano 3s needs roughly half again as much electricity per terahash as a current BM1370 board. You are paying for convenience and quiet, not for the lowest running cost.
