Air cooling done properly
Most compact miners fight their heat with a 40 mm fan at several thousand revolutions. The NerdQX instead borrows from desktop computers: a tall finned heatsink, a 120 mm intake and a 90 mm exhaust. Moving air through a large area slowly is quieter than forcing it through a small one quickly, and the result is around 38 dB under load.
Where the 8 TH/s come from
Four BM1370 chips run at a clock the cooling can actually sustain, which is why the figure holds through a summer afternoon instead of dropping after ten minutes. At about 140 W that gives roughly 17 J/TH.
What you see
- A colour display on the front shows hashrate, temperature, power and your best share so far.
- The device stands on its own base, upright, with the airflow running front to back.
- One cable for power, nothing else. The network connection is Wi-Fi.
Firmware
AxeOS, the same open source firmware the rest of the family uses. Pool, worker name and Bitcoin address are three fields in a browser. Frequency and voltage are there too, for anyone who wants to tune; the defaults are set for continuous running rather than a benchmark number.

Is 38 dB quiet?
It is about the level of a quiet conversation in the next room, or a desktop computer under light load. You will hear it in a silent bedroom and you will not hear it in an office.
How does it compare with the NerdQAxe++ Hydro?
Both are four chip devices. The NerdQX cools with air and reaches around 8 TH/s at 140 W. The Hydro cools with water at a lower clock, around 6 TH/s at 100 W, and is quieter. Pick the QX for output, the Hydro for silence.
Can I run it in a cupboard?
Only with airflow. The cooling depends on cool air reaching the front and warm air leaving the back. A closed cupboard will heat up and the device will reduce its clock.
