Why copper

Copper conducts heat roughly twice as well as aluminium. On a mining chip that shows up as a lower temperature at the same clock, or the same temperature at a higher one. The Copperzilla ships at a sensible stock setting of around 1.5 TH/s at about 22 W, and what you do above that is your decision.

Made for tuning

AxeOS exposes core voltage and frequency. On a board with an aluminium cooler you run out of thermal room quickly; here you have more of it. Owners who tune carefully report meaningfully higher figures, and owners who tune carelessly report dead chips. Both outcomes are possible.

Overclocking is at your own risk. Damage caused by running the chip outside its specified voltage and frequency is not covered.

Small and self contained

  • A 0.91-inch OLED shows hashrate, temperature and the pool connection at a glance.
  • The 40 mm PWM fan follows the chip temperature rather than running flat out.
  • Power comes from a 5 V supply, so there is no heavy 12 V brick on the desk.

Setup

The same three minutes as any other board in the family: power on, join the Wi-Fi network the miner opens, enter your network and your Bitcoin address. The Bitaxe setup guide has the details.

Bitaxe Copperzilla has been running for about a month without needing much attention. In practice I appreciate the power draw around 22 W and the roughly 1.5 TH/s performance. I mostly run it on my usual solo pool. No regrets so far.

Frequently asked questions

How far can I overclock it?
That depends on the individual chip, your room temperature and how much risk you accept. The copper block gives you more thermal room than an aluminium cooler, not a guarantee. Raise frequency and voltage in small steps and watch the temperature.
Is it worth it if I never overclock?
At the stock clock it runs cooler and therefore quieter than an aluminium cooled board, because the fan has less work to do. If silence matters more to you than headroom, that alone can justify it.
Why 5 V instead of 12 V?
A single BM1370 at 22 W does not need a 12 V rail. The 5 V supply is smaller, lighter and easier to replace, and it keeps the desk tidy.
