Four BM1370 chips under a water loop: 6 TH/s that you can sit next to

What is in the box

  • NerdQAxe++ Hydro with the loop filled and tested
  • 12 V / 10 A power supply (120 W)
  • Quick start guide

Four chips, one water loop, and a machine you can keep in the room you work in.

Why water on a desktop miner

A four chip board produces about as much heat as a bright desk lamp. Air cooled designs deal with that by spinning a small fan very fast, and small fans at high speed are the reason most people move their miner into the cellar. The Hydro takes a different route: a water block sits on the chips, a pump moves the heat into a radiator, and a larger fan pushes it out slowly. Same heat, far less noise.

What the numbers mean

Around 6 TH/s at roughly 100 W works out to about 16.7 J/TH. That is close to what a single chip board manages, which is unusual for four chips: keeping the silicon cool is what lets it hold its clock instead of throttling back.

Built as one piece

  • The loop arrives filled, bled and tested. There is nothing to assemble and nothing to top up.
  • The 1.9-inch colour display shows hashrate, chip temperature, power draw and your best share.
  • The frame holds board, pump and radiator in one unit, so the miner stands on a desk without a separate mount.

Setup and control

The Hydro runs AxeOS, the open source firmware of the Bitaxe and NerdAxe family. Power it up, join the Wi-Fi network it opens, enter your own network and your Bitcoin address, and it starts hashing. After that everything happens in a browser tab on your home network. Our NerdQAxe setup guide covers each screen.

Solo or pool

Point it at a solo pool and every hash is an entry for the full block reward, paid to an address only you control. Point it at a shared pool and the payouts are small and regular. The setting is one field in AxeOS and you can change it whenever you like.

NerdQAxe++ Hydro sits on my desk. For that location I particularly appreciate moving the heat into a water loop and the stable temperatures under longer loads.

Frequently asked questions

Does the water loop need maintenance?
No. It is a closed loop, filled and sealed at the factory, the same design used in desktop computer coolers. There is nothing to refill and nothing to open.
How loud is it compared with an air cooled four chip miner?
Clearly quieter. The radiator fan is much larger than a 40 mm fan, so it moves the same amount of heat at a far lower speed. Under full load it sounds like a quiet desktop computer rather than a hair dryer.
What is the difference to the NerdQAxe Copper Pro?
Both use four BM1370 chips. The Copper Pro moves the heat into a solid copper block and a pair of fans, which gives you headroom for manual overclocking. The Hydro moves it into water and is built around staying quiet at the stock clock.
