Six Gamma chips on one board, and water where the heat comes from.
The Bitaxe Gamma Hex 1300 puts six BM1370 chips, the ASIC of the Bitaxe Gamma, on a single board and cools them with a closed water loop. Our data sheet lists its overclocked operating point: around 10.5 TH/s at about 200 W, roughly 19 J/TH. It leaves the factory at a lower clock, and you decide in AxeOS which of the two settings it runs at.
Factory setting or overclock
Out of the box the six chips run at their factory frequency and core voltage. Raise both in the AxeOS dashboard and the Hex reaches the values of the data sheet. The two operating points side by side; all figures are approximate and vary a little from unit to unit and room to room:
| Factory setting | Overclocked (data sheet) | |
|---|---|---|
| Hashrate | 8.4 TH/s | 10.5 TH/s |
| Power draw | 150 W | 200 W |
| Efficiency | 17.9 J/TH | 19 J/TH |
| Energy per month, running 24/7 | 110 kWh | 146 kWh |
The overclock gives you about a quarter more hashrate for about a third more power, so each terahash costs a little more electricity than at the factory setting. With a high tariff the factory setting is the sensible way to run it. If you want the most hashrate for a solo pool, the overclock is one change in the settings, and you can go back the same way.
Water on the chips, a fan for the back of the board
Six chips put a lot of heat into a small area. On the Hex a water block sits directly on the ASICs, a pump carries the heat through two braided hoses into a radiator, and an RGB fan with a grille in Bitcoin design pushes it out into the room. The loop is closed: there is nothing to fill or bleed.
The water only reaches the chips. The voltage regulators and the other components on the back of the board get their own 80 mm fan at the rear, so the parts that warm up under load without a water block still have air moving over them.
Voltage regulator and power input
The core voltage for all six chips comes from a TPS546D24A, a digitally controlled regulator. When you change the core voltage in AxeOS, this is the part that applies it. A steady voltage matters most at the overclocked setting, where the chips work closest to their limits.
Power enters through an XT60 connector instead of a round barrel jack. At 12 V, 200 W means a current of around 17 A, and the XT60 is made for that kind of load and latches firmly. A 12 V power supply comes in the box.
Where the Hex sits in our range
Between our four-chip boards and the eight-chip NerdOctaxe. Values from the data sheets in our catalogue:
| Model | Chips | Hashrate | Power | Efficiency | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitaxe 702 | 6 × BM1368 | 4.2 TH/s | 90 W | 21.4 J/TH | Heatsink with fan |
| NerdQAxe++ Hydro | 4 × BM1370 | 6 TH/s | 100 W | 16.7 J/TH | Closed water loop |
| NerdQX | 4 × BM1370 | 8 TH/s | 140 W | 17 J/TH | Tower heatsink |
| Bitaxe Gamma Hex 1300 | 6 × BM1370 | 10.5 TH/s | 200 W | 19 J/TH | Closed water loop, 80 mm rear fan |
| NerdOctaxe Rev 3.1 | 8 × BM1370 | 12 TH/s | 200 W | 17 J/TH | Air |
| NerdOctaxe Hydro | 8 × BM1370 | 14 TH/s | 220 W | 16 J/TH | Closed water loop |
Per terahash, the overclocked Hex uses a little more electricity than the NerdQX or the NerdOctaxe; at the factory setting the gap is small. What it offers is a lot of hashrate from one device under water, with the same AxeOS as a Bitaxe Gamma. If one chip on your desk is enough, the Bitaxe Gamma stays the smaller and more frugal choice. If you want more than the Hex, the NerdOctaxe puts eight chips on one board.
Running cost and the heat in the room
Electricity is the running cost. Around the clock the Hex uses about 146 kWh a month at the overclocked setting and about 110 kWh at the factory setting. At 0.30 EUR per kWh, used here only as an example, that is roughly 44 EUR or 33 EUR a month. Take the price per kWh from your own bill and multiply.
Every watt ends up as heat. Up to 200 W warm a small room noticeably, which is welcome in winter and less so in summer. Put the Hex where the radiator and the fan at the back have free air, not in a closed cupboard. We have not measured a noise level yet, so this page names none.
Setup and solo mining
The Hex runs AxeOS on an ESP32-S3 and connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Setup works like on every Bitaxe: power it up, join the Wi-Fi network it opens, enter your home network, then set pool and Bitcoin address in the dashboard. Our Bitaxe setup guide shows each screen, including where frequency and core voltage are set.
With a solo pool, every hash counts toward a full block reward paid to your own address. At around 10.5 TH/s the Hex has roughly the hashrate of eight Bitaxe Gamma boards; the odds of finding a block stay small all the same. Our solo mining guide does the maths honestly, and the lottery miners page and the miner comparison show the rest of our range.
