NerdAxe Setup Guide

This guide covers the single-chip NerdAxe boards we sell: the NerdAxe Gamma, the NerdAxe Gaia and the NerdAxe Gaia Copper Pro. For the four-chip NerdQAxe++ and the NerdOctaxe use the NerdQAxe++ setup guide.

1. Unbox and connect to power

 • Take your NerdAxe out of the packaging and connect it to the power supply with the cables provided.
 • Plug the power supply into a reliable power source.
 • Wait for the Wi-Fi message: after powering up, the NerdAxe display shows "CONFIG Wi-Fi PORTAL SSID: Nerdaxe_XXXX".

2. Connect to the NerdAxe Wi-Fi

 • Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone or computer.
 • Select the network named "Nerdaxe_XXXX" and connect to it.

3. Open the dashboard

 • After connecting you land on the main page of the user interface, the AxeOS dashboard. On the Gaia Copper Pro it is the NerdOS dashboard, the steps are the same.

4. Enter your settings

 • Open the settings menu from the dashboard.
 • Hostname: enter a hostname or keep the default.
 • Wi-Fi SSID: type the exact name of the 2.4 GHz network your NerdAxe should join.
 • Wi-Fi password: type the password of that network, capital letters included.
 • Pool settings: the pool is preset to public-pool.io. You can change it, but the preset is the right choice for most people.
 • Bitcoin address: enter the address where you want block rewards in the Stratum User field. We suggest a SegWit address starting with "bc1q". You can keep a worker name at the end, for example .NerdAxe

5. Save and restart

 • Click Save after entering your information.
 • Restart the device with the Restart button to apply the changes.

6. Start mining

 • Wi-Fi: the NerdAxe now connects to your Wi-Fi network.
 • Mining: after a few seconds the mining process starts on its own. The display shows hashrate, chip temperature and power draw.

The Wi-Fi network a NerdAxe needs

The NerdAxe connects to 2.4 GHz networks with a normal WPA2 password. It does not see 5 GHz networks, and it cannot log in to hotel, campus or office networks that open a login page in the browser. If your router uses one name for both bands, set the miner up close to the router. A phone hotspot works fine and uses very little data.

Gaia (BM1373): what differs

The setup steps are the same for both boards. The differences are in the hardware:

NerdAxe GammaNerdAxe Gaia
ASIC chipBM1370BM1373
Hashrate1.2 TH/s2.6 TH/s
Power draw17 W25 W
Efficiency14 J/TH10 J/TH
Display1.9-inch colour display1.9-inch colour display
Power supply5 V12 V / 6 A, included

The Gaia draws more power and needs its 12 V supply; do not swap the power supplies between the two boards. Everything in AxeOS, from the pool settings to the firmware update, works the same way.

Gaia Copper Pro: what differs

The NerdAxe Gaia Copper Pro is the Gaia board with the same BM1373 under the AXP60 Copper Pro, a copper cooler with a 60 mm PWM fan. It comes set to a higher clock from the factory and delivers around 3 TH/s at 33 W. Like the Gaia it runs on the included 12 V / 6 A power supply.

Instead of AxeOS the Gaia Copper Pro ships with NerdOS, which is open source as well. Setting it up works exactly like on every other NerdAxe: follow the six steps above as they are.

Good to know

 • Bitcoin wallet: if you do not have a Bitcoin wallet yet, set one up before configuring your NerdAxe. A hardware wallet is the safest choice.
 • Monitor your mining: check whether your NerdAxe is connected to the pool by visiting public pool and entering your Bitcoin address.
 • Display pages: use the bottom button on the NerdAxe to cycle through the display pages.
 • Case: the NerdAxe Case fits the Gamma and keeps the fan clear.

Compare hashrate and power of every miner in the miner comparison; what a home miner can realistically win is in the solo mining guide.
